At age 24 in 1993, Molten opened the first Half-Moon Outfitters in downtown Charleston, SC and now oversees eight distinctly different Outdoor stores in SC and Georgia, and an online business. Half-Moon Outfitters has received numerous awards and accolades, among them Backpacker Magazine’s Sustainable Retailer of the year award for 2009, and was among Outdoor Business’ Top 25 Retailers for 2008, 2009, and 2010. The company’s hub and distribution Center is LEED Platinum, the first of its kind in SC and the first nationally under the more stringent N.C. 2.2 guidelines.

The company employs more than 120 people and strives to give generously to Environmental and Education initiatives. The company was named the SNEWS/Backpacker Outdoor Retailer of the Year – 2011, the highest honor achievable for independent retail within the Outdoor industry. Molten is on the CNBC Small Business Council and has been interviewed numerous times on Squawk Box and other CNBC shows.

Most recently, Half-Moon has undertaken the renovation of a 15,000 square foot bldg., at 603 E Stone in Greenville SC, to be a Net Zero Building or NZB. Molten lives with his 3 children and wife in Mt Pleasant SC and is current Chair of The Greenbelt Advisory Board of Charleston County.
